PROJECT IS CLOSED, but THANKS ANYHOW!
----------------------------------------------------------
The mission of this project is to assemble an international collection of creative personalities and unite them for one cause : to send aid to the areas affected by the aftermath of Katrina. As artists, we possess a completely unique gift, and this is a gift that we can turn into donations for those in need. While each of us could auction off our work individually, I believe that the momentum of a large, publicized project would provide a larger audience for our artwork.
I invite all artists to participate in this project by creating or donating an artwork of any sort, preferably original, to the Art for Katrina Project. Those not inclined towards art can help by spreading the word, ESPECIALLY online or at your college. Please follow THIS LINK for a B&W flyer that one can print out at the local computer lab and post around campus. If you know of a website who has a community who would be interested in this project, don't ask me. Just send them an eMail, and with any luck, they'll post the information. If you'd like to participate with artwork, please follow these instructions and be aware of these details to expedite this whole process:
- All artworks will be sold on eBay, the auction community with the widest international exposure, under clearly marked charity headings. A running tally of artworks donated and the subsequent monetary donations will be displayed on the front page. Click here for a sample eBay page. In the event that the site reaches 50,000 pageviews in any 24-hour period, I'll also offer artists the option of selling the work directly from the gallery contained on this site, thereby eschewing eBay altogether and enabling us to send a true 100% donation to relief efforts. NO funds will be taken out for webhosting expenses - that's out of pocket.
- All artists will get a page in the Art for Katrina contributors' gallery featuring their donated artwork and a link to their portfolio, should they have one. This work will remain for the entirety of this project.
- All profits will be donated to charities helping with the relief efforts made necessary by Katrina. The first round of auction proceeds will go to Direct Relief.
- All donation proceeds will be guaranteed through eBay's GivingWorks and MissionFish. Each auction will feature a ribbon icon and a clear indication that 100% of the proceeds will go to charity. For more info, please visit the respective sites. Because of the policies of MissionFish, each sale will start at an opening bid of at LEAST $10 and proceed from there. We have attempted to operate outside of this structure, but it has proven to be impractical. A minimal handling fee will be charged, in addition to shipping, to cover eBay listing fees and PayPal 'receiving funds' fees, which MissionFish does not consider in their structure and leaves as out-of-pocket expenses for the seller. This amount will not exceed $4 in most cases, and will often be less. If there are any funds remaining after these fees are paid, 100% will also be returned to charity.
- Artwork does NOT have to be Katrina or disaster themed. In fact, I'd encourage the opposite. Do whatever comes naturally, and do ANYTHING. Pencils, inks, acrylics, prints, crafts, plushes, custom toys, small sculptures.
If you'd like to participate, please do the following :
- Securely package your artwork and mail it to the following address:
Collin David

10 Quincy Road
Putnam Valley NY 10579
- Art will be photographed / scanned for the gallery, repackaged in the original packaging and re-sent out to the auction winners. In the event that an artwork does not sell, it will be returned to the creator. If you can provide a JPEG of your artwork, and/or a 100 x 100 px thumbnail, that will greatly expedite the process. Please clearly mark your name on the outside, as that'll be how I'm keeping track of the works.
- Please include a note with your artwork indicating your full name and address, as well as the web address of your portfolio, should you have one. If you do not have a portfolio, please feel free to include a brief bio and any contact info you'd like.
- As every artist has a different value for their art depending upon their exposure, please indicate an acceptable starting price for the auction.
If any artist has a serious concern about sending artwork to this central location, please contact me and I'd be happy to work something out. Please understand that the purpose of this is to moderate the flow of art though this project and guarantee legitimacy of those who wish to contribute. Quibbling with eBay buyers isn't something that would be productive to the project.
If there are any questions whatsoever, please contact cdavid[at]resonantfish.com or art[at]artforkatrina.com. Thanks very much for your interest and participation. SEE THE SPECIAL THANKS!
